1. What excites you about working in healthcare?

Meeting with clients/patients/residents every day and assisting with their daily needs. The smile on their faces when they feel satisfied with the help you have rendered them. I feel fulfilled and happy when I know I have been able to help.

2. How did you find the induction training with First City?

I enjoyed the exercises and practical sessions. It was more hands-on, and I felt very equipped from the training to start my shadow shifts. However, I was not too confident because I had thought being on the field may be different and much more intense than what we had done during the training. But I was really excited to see that it was nothing different from what we had done during training. From training on medication, end of life, personal care, continence care etc. The training was very detailed and easy to follow.

3. How has your introduction to the role been?

Induction to the role has been good. I have shadowed and worked with very kind and understanding colleagues. They are always ready to help and explain to you to help you understand better. The recruitment process was quite intense and thorough, and I appreciate every step of it as we went along because it was well worth it.

4. Thinking about the start of your journey working for First City, how would you describe the company?

I think First City is a company that is very thorough and people focussed. They want the job done and try to provide the enabling environment for this to be done. They will not take excuses for not doing what ought to be done. I feel they take training their staff seriously because they expect the best, such that even if the candidate had no background knowledge in care, they would still be able to do the job. It is no wonder they are rated "Outstanding" by the CQC.

5. Do you have any other comments you would like to share?

I have had a good time working with First City so far, and I am happy for the opportunity. I am hoping that with First City I will be able to take my care career to the next level through the training and opportunities they provide.
