Well, let's talk transferrable skills!

Do you have experience in a customer facing role? Excellent customer service and people skills are highly valuable in a healthcare role. You need to be approachable, friendly, compassionate and be able to hold a conversation. Sometimes to our customers, the conversation is the most important part of their visit as their care worker may be the only person they see or talk to in the day.

Are you someone who is organised, versatile and good at time keeping? These skills are extremely useful in all healthcare positions. Ensuring medication is administered on time, organising activities for customers and being able to adapt to different situations, including people's changing moods.

Do you know how to clean and cook (we're not talking about Michelin stars, but rather life skills)? Our care workers visit customers during breakfast, lunch and dinner times to support in preparing meals, and undertake light domestic duties during these visits also.

Are you quick thinking and able to problen solve? Sometimes unforeseen circumstances can require thinking outside of the box, for example, we may need to try and find new ways to reassure and prompt a customer who is neglecting their personal care to take a shower or have a wash.

You may not have experience administering medication, using a hoist or with basic life support. You might not have previously supported someone with personal care or incontinence support - but that's okay, with our excellent in-house training here at First City Care Group, followed by shadowing of experienced care workers, we can teach you all of the essentials, all you need is to hold the values of a care worker and want to make a difference to the lives of others.
